Giles Watling - A letter to the People of Clacton

Dear People of Clacton,

So, the fighting's over, political points have been made and refuted and now we can all get on with our lives, with all the excitement and anxiety of election behind us.

It has been a massive honour and privilege to represent the people of Tendring and the Clacton constituency for the last seventeen years. Firstly, as a Councillor and secondly as your MP for the last seven years. It has been a blast and I think I've had the good fortune to do that thing that all politicians crave - make a difference - a positive one. I will merely say that I am satisfied that my work has been appreciated by many; my inbox has been buzzing.

I'd like to thank all those that supported me in the past and, even for those that didn't, I hope I served you all well. To the 12,820 who voted for me at this last election I send a special message of thanks because, with the central government difficulties recently, it must have been a difficult choice - thank you.

I wish my successor all the very best in taking up this challenging mantle. It is never an easy job, but it is a wonderful one and I hope that he does the best he can for us all here in Clacton.

Wishing you all the very best - doubtless I shall see some of you around the place as I continue to live here!

Giles
