Johnny Mercer, a fierce supporter of UK Veterans, has posted a video to X/Twitter to warn people that Keir Starmer wants to repeal the Legacy Act which protects our veterans from prosecution.
Morning, folks. It's Wednesday morning, and the sun's out again, and it's going to be a long day of campaigning. Now, look, we've got Labour Friends of the Forces in Plymouth today. I like anyone who gets involved from the forces in politics, because we need better representation in politics and military life, right?
But I do want you, if you're in that group today, if you meet Northern Ireland veterans, of which there are probably thousands in the city, I want you to be really clear with them that you're campaigning for a guy, Keir Starmer, who wants to reopen the Legacy Act so that he can appease political parties in Northern Ireland like Sinn Fein.
I think it's disgraceful. You know, we've worked on this for 7, 8 years. We've seen the horrific process of men in their seventies and eighties going to court. I've sat with them in the courts, and it's dire.
So, if someone has those principles, I don't understand how, if you come from the military, you think it's okay to go out and campaign for him to be Prime Minister. But be my guest. Come and knock on my door, and we can have a conversation about it. Other than that, folks, it's going well. We're busy. Everyone's getting tired, but it's 2 weeks to go tomorrow. And I look forward to seeing as many of you on the doors today as we possibly can.
