Tory leader hopeful Kemi Badenoch was asked by GB News if she would reverse the Labour decision of charging VAT on private schooling if she became Prime Minister.
Kemi Badenoch replied:
I know, I know it is a policy, so I feel bad because I have to slightly change what I said.
That is the very first thing that I will do if I become prime minister. VAT or one of certainly one of the first things I will do. VAT on private schools is a tax on education. It is a tax on aspiration. Most people who go to private schools, save a lot, work very hard.
They're not necessarily wealthy. I know lots of people who have taken their children out of private schools because of what Labour has done. It will not raise a penny. It will put more burden on the state. Those people are paying twice.
It is not fair. It is cruel, and we need to do everything we can to get this Labour government out and reverse that policy.
