Political debate is strongest when claims can be examined, assumptions can be challenged and different experiences are given a fair hearing.

We are interested in original articles, informed commentary, analysis and first-hand perspectives on British politics, government, public policy and public life.

You do not need to be a professional journalist. You may be an elected representative, campaigner, researcher, subject specialist, business owner, charity worker, public-sector professional, student or simply somebody with a thoughtful and well-supported argument.

What we are looking for

• Clear, original writing with a definite point or purpose.
• Analysis supported by evidence, sources or relevant experience.
• Commentary that engages with the argument rather than attacking individuals.
• First-hand accounts that help readers understand how policy works in practice.
• Constructive responses to articles already published on the site.

Before sending your idea

Please tell us briefly who you are, what you would like to write about and why you believe the subject matters. A short outline is usually more useful than sending a completed article without warning.
