Ash Regan - 'Ed Miliband has decided to push the Scottish oil and gas industry off a cliff'

July 12th, 2024

Ash Regan MSP has taken to X to accuse Ed Miliband of pushing the 'Scottish oil and gas industry off a cliff'.

Ash Regan (ALBA Party) said:

After less than a week in power, the MP for Doncaster North has decided to push the Scottish oil and gas industry off a cliff. This reckless decision endangers the livelihoods of Scottish workers and will not achieve net zero.

Instead, it will leave the UK dependent on oil and gas imports from countries with poor environmental, safety, and human rights standards. Moreover, their windfall tax on Scottish-based energy firms will cost 40,000 jobs across the industry.

This is an economically and environmentally illiterate move, fuelled by reckless adolescent politics. Scotland should benefit from its own resources, not have them exploited by the UK government to cover the financial blackhole caused by Brexit and economic incompetence.
