Who else wants answers from Labour's Home Secretary @YvetteCooperMP?

Ms Bullivant's letter to Yvetter Cooper:

Rt Hon Yvette Cooper MP

Dear Home Secretary,

I must express my profound concern regarding a most disturbing development under your watch--why is the Labour-led Home Office labelling members of the British public as "criminals" before they have had the benefit of a fair trial?

Let us not forget, over 800 years ago, our venerable British ancestors had the wisdom and foresight to enshrine the right to justice and a fair trial. They understood, as we should today, that condemning someone without due process is an affront to the very principles that have made our nation great. Yet, here we find ourselves in 2024, witnessing this sacred British tradition being trampled underfoot after you've barely been in office a few weeks.

My family has been in the newspaper business for over half a century. If any of our journalists had ever dared to issue a statement like that, we'd be sued, face reprimands, and no small amount of public outrage.

To call people "criminals" before a court of law has had its say is nothing less than contempt of court. It is a breach of the trust that the British public places in their institutions, and a stark deviation from the values that define us as a nation.

I urge you to reflect on the gravity of this matter and take swift action to restore the integrity of the Home Office. The British people deserve nothing less.

Yours sincerely,

Claire Bullivant
