The former first minister of Scotland Alex Salmond has died.
It is understood that Mr Salmond died following a speech he'd given in North Macedonia this morning.
Mr Salmond was leader of the SNP on two occasions, where he took the Scottish National Party from the political and electoral fringe, to mainstream player and eventually to government.
Mr Salmond resigned following the 2014 independence referendum when the YES movement failed to break the Union.
His deputy Nicola Sturgeon succeeded him unopposed.
