Prison officer attacked in HMP Woodhill - as Labour announce jails at almost full capacity

May 14th, 2025

A Prison Officer has been attacked at HMP Woodhill, a Category B prison in Milton Keynes.

A specialist Prison Officer was slashed in the neck and ear with an improvised weapon by a prisoner detained under the Counter-Terrorism Act 2008.

The officer required hospital treatment.

Geoff Willetts of the Prison Officers Association said:

I am advised that one of our members at HMP Woodhill was attacked by a prisoner who was detained under the Terrorism act of 2008. The Officer was assaulted and injured while carrying out his duties.

In a separate incident at the same jail a prisoner was told to return to his cell, this resulted in a specialist officer being slashed with an improvised weapon sustaining injuries to the neck and ear. The Officer attended hospital attention where they required stitches and surgical glue applied to their injuries.

Paul Brand, Editor and Presenter also posted today that prisons are almost at capacity and Labour are expected to recommend fewer short sentences and more community-based punishments.

BREAKING: At a special press conference hosted by the Justice Secretary the government reveals that male prisons are at 99% capacity and will run out of space by November.

Government rolling the pitch here for next week’s sentencing review, which is expected to recommend fewer short sentences and more community-based punishments.
