A police officer has been stabbed in chest whilst visiting HMP Frankland.
HMP Frankland is a men's high security Category A prison in Durham.
The police officer, who is from another force, was attacked at about 11:00 BST while visiting the prison.
The Justice Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, is being updated on the officer's condition and the situation at the jail.
The police officer has been taken to hospital and is reported as "conscious and talking".
Shabana Mahmood took to X and posted: "Deeply concerning news from HMP Frankland today, where a police officer has been stabbed, though is conscious and talking in hospital. I am being kept up-to-date with all developments. And my thoughts are with that brave officer."
