Women's Safety Initiative have launched a new petition supporting Daisy Blakemore and urging the government to require all taxis and private hire vehicles to be fitted with operational CCTV

June 14th, 2025

Newly formed Women's Safety Initiative have launched a new petition for the government to pass legislation requiring all taxis and private hire vehicles to be fitted with operational CCTV to ensure the safety of both passengers and drivers.

Their petition states:

Too many passengers, especially women, experience harassment, assault, or fear in taxis. CCTV could deter misconduct, support investigations, and increase trust in the system. We think it’s a simple, proven, and affordable way to make every ride a safe ride.

The group posted a message to X supporting Daisy Blakemore who left the Labour Party following her claims of bullying.

Labour’s youngest councillor @DaisyBlakemore quit after being bullied and branded racist for simply advocating for CCTV in taxis.

We’re standing with Daisy to campaign to mandate CCTV in taxis to give it the support it deserves.

Sign the petition now.

Daisy Blakemore-Creedon, a 19-year-old councillor, resigned from the Labour Group on Peterborough City Council in May 2025, citing bullying, marginalisation, and unaddressed complaints. She alleged that after raising concerns about passenger and driver safety in council-licensed minicabs, particularly advocating for CCTV installation, she faced accusations of racism from fellow Labour councillors, who claimed she and her family were "targeting fellow Asian Labour councillors." She described these accusations as "completely unfounded and deeply hurtful."
