Zarah Sultana, the Independent MP for Coventry South, has expressed strong opposition to the Labour government's proposed welfare reforms, particularly those affecting disability benefits.
In a post to X she said:
I voted to scrap the two-child benefit cap — and had the Labour whip removed.
I voted against cuts to winter fuel payments.
And I’ll vote against any attack on disability benefits.
Austerity 2.0 is a political choice — and I will always oppose it.
Zarah Sultana has also signed a letter with 42 other MPs, declaring the proposed £7 billion cuts to disability benefits "impossible to support," arguing they would push 700,000 households into poverty and cause significant hardship without creating jobs.
