Ed Miliband - The price cap rise is yet another consequence of the toxic legacy left by the previous government

August 23rd, 2024

Ed Miliband has taken to social media to blame the Conservatives for the 10% price cap increase announced by OFGEM.

Ed Miliband's announcement:

Today’s announcement from Ofgem will be worrying news for families across the country.

The expected rise in the price cap is yet another consequence of the toxic legacy left by the previous government.

Their failure over 14 years to secure our energy system has left families at the mercy of international markets controlled by dictators.

We are determined to change this.

In the short term, we will do everything in our power to protect billpayers, including:

  • reforming the regulator so it is a consumer champion
  • working to make standing charges fairer
  • introducing a Warm Homes Plan

The only long term solution to achieve energy independence is to sprint towards clean, homegrown power.

That’s why we are moving at pace to deliver on our mission for clean power, by lifting the onshore wind ban, consenting solar and getting more renewable projects built.

Our mission is the only way to save families money on their bills, and get our country out of the grip of high energy prices for good.
