Mike Amesbury has announced he is quitting as an MP. There will now be a by-election in his Runcorn and Helsby consistency.
Former Labour MP Mike Amesbury was initially jailed after punching a constituent, Paul Fellows, in Frodsham, Cheshire after a night out. Mr Amesbury continued to punch Mr Fellows whilst he was on the ground.
My Amesbury received a ten week prison sentence for the assault. In what some have called "two-tier justice" Mr Amesbury managed to secure a court appearance to raise an appeal just three days after being sentenced. Mr Amesbury's sentence was suspended for two years.
