Helen Whately MP on Starmer's bus fare rise announcement: "Clearly bus users don't count as 'working people' either"

October 28th, 2024

Labour have confirmed that they will rise the cap on bus fares from £2 to £3 - an increase of 50%.

Helen Whately MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Transport posted to X:

That's £10 a week extra to get to work under Labour.

Clearly bus users don't count as "working people" either.

Green Party MP Carla Denyer also posted to X: following Keir Starmer's announcement:

The Labour government has confirmed a 50% rise in bus fares - a blow for everyone who relies on buses in the cost of living crisis.

This is the wrong approach – government should be supporting our economy and environment by making it easier to get around without a car.
