Keir Starmer: "An Israeli offensive in Rafah would be catastrophic" - Israel: "We've killed Yahya Sinwar in Rafah"

October 18th, 2024

In previous posts Keir Starmer has said that an offensive into Rafah would be "catastrophic". After reports of Yahya Sinwar's death (ironically in Rafah) Keir Starmer has said: "The UK will not mourn his death."

Keir Starmer's previous posts on Rafah:

With more than a million Palestinian civilians sheltering in Rafah, an Israeli offensive must not go ahead.

There must be an immediate ceasefire, the immediate release of all hostages, and unimpeded aid into Gaza that can be delivered regularly, quickly and safely.

-- Keir Starmer, May 6th 2024

There are over 1.4 million displaced Palestinians in Rafah and it is the gateway to aid for Gaza - an Israeli offensive there would be catastrophic.

The fighting must stop now. We need a sustainable ceasefire.

-- Keir Starmer, February 11th 2024

Keir Starmer's message on hearing of Yahya Sinwar's death:

"As the leader of the terrorist group Hamas, Yahya Sinwar was the mastermind behind the deadliest day in Jewish history since the Holocaust, as 1200 people were slaughtered in Israel.

"Today my thoughts are with the families of those victims. The UK will not mourn his death.

"The release of all hostages, an immediate ceasefire and an increase in humanitarian aid are long overdue so we can move towards a long-term, sustainable peace in the Middle East."
