Kim Johnson, MP for Liverpool Riverside. posted to X today to explain why she won't be present to vote in the crucial Winter Fuel Payment vote.
Ms Johnson said: "Please see my statement on today's Winter Fuel Payment vote."
Ms Johnson's statement on missing the crucial Winter Fuel Payment vote:
Unfortunately, I am undergoing pre-arranged dental surgery this week, so l am unable to attend Parliament. This means that I will be unable to participate in today's crucial Winter Fuel Payment vote.
I have been inundated with messages and correspondence from constituents on this issue and I share their concerns. I have consistently requested that the government reverses this shocking decision.
Analysis of the Winter Fuel Payment cut has shown that the disproportionate impact could be deadly on the most vulnerable of households. This winter, two million more pensioners could be pushed into poverty - imposing such an extensive scale of hardship on pensioners is an attack some simply will not recover from.
Had I been in Parliament today, I could not have voted with the government, in favour of an assault which puts people's lives at serious risk.
As your representative, I take my duty to vote on matters of such importance very seriously - it pains me to miss this opportunity to advocate on behalf of our Liverpool Riverside community.
Whatever the result of tonight's vote, I will continue to fight for a fair and just society for all.
