The Labour government have cancelled funding for an £800m exascale supercomputer at Edinburgh University. The government have also cancelled £500m of funding for AI Research Resource, which funds computing power for AI. These are both projects announced by the Conservative party.
Edinburgh University have already spent £31m on the building to house the supercomputer.
It is believed that the exascale supercomputer would have been 50 times faster than any current computer in the UK.
The supercomputer would have helped with climate forecasting, drug development, fusion and AI.
