Robert Jenrick , Shadow Secretary of State for Justice, has revealed that the Ministry of Justice had a "walk through" of the new sentencing guidance on 3rd March.
Mr Jenrick has previously warned that the new guidance will mean that prison sentences will be less likely for ‘ethnic minorities’ and ‘faith minority communities’ - therefore creating a two tier justice system.
Secretary of State for Justice, Shabana Mahmood responded by saying: "there will never be a two tier sentencing approach, under my watch or under this Labour government".
Mr Jenrick posted to X:
NEW: The MoJ received a ‘walk through’ of the new sentencing guidance on the 3rd March.
That’s alongside the meeting in January where the Justice Secretary’s representative agreed it.
Unless Labour act *now* in 21 days we will have two-tier justice under Two-Tier Keir.
The post is followed by another post detailing the "walk through" and previous meetings between the Sentencing Council and Labour Party officials.
