UK and USA General Terms document for the Trade Deal "does not constitute a legally binding agreement"

May 9th, 2025

Prime Minister Keir Starmer gleefully posted details of the UK-USA trade deal to social media sites this week.

Today I've secured a deal with the US that boosts British businesses and saves thousands of British jobs.

I promised to protect British car makers and save our steel. This deal delivers on that promise.

And British workers, families, and firms will feel the benefit.

-- Keir Starmer to X, May 8, 2025

It hasn't taken people long to examine the documentation and find the following statement at the bottom of page one:

Both the United States and the United Kingdom recognize that this document does not constitute a legally binding agreement.
