Alexander Dobrindt is a German politician of the Christian Social Union (CSU) who has served as Federal Minister of the Interior since 6 May 2025.
Born on 7 June 1970 in Peißenberg, Bavaria, Dobrindt studied sociology at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, graduating in 1995. Before entering federal politics, he worked in a mechanical engineering company, becoming its managing director in 2001.
Dobrindt has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2002. He previously served in a number of senior CSU and parliamentary roles, including as Secretary General of the CSU from 2009 to 2013.
From 2013 to 2017, he served as Federal Minister for Transport and Digital Infrastructure. Between 2017 and 2025, he was chair of the CSU state group in the Bundestag and a vice-chair of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group.
In May 2025, Dobrindt returned to the federal cabinet as Interior Minister. His portfolio includes domestic security, migration, civil protection and other areas of federal interior policy. He also continues to sit in the Bundestag, representing the Weilheim constituency in Bavaria.
