David Cameron, Lord Cameron of Chipping Norton, is a British Conservative politician who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from May 2010 until July 2016.
Born on 9 October 1966 in London, Cameron was educated at Eton College and Brasenose College, Oxford, where he studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics.
Before entering Parliament, he worked for the Conservative Research Department, served as a government special adviser and later worked for Carlton Communications.
Cameron was elected as the Conservative MP for Witney in 2001 and became leader of the Conservative Party in December 2005.
Following the 2010 general election, he became Prime Minister and led a Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition government. After the Conservatives won a Commons majority in 2015, he formed a Conservative government.
His premiership included the 2014 Scottish independence referendum and the 2016 referendum on the United Kingdom's membership of the European Union. Cameron campaigned for Remain and announced his resignation after voters backed Leave.
He left office on 13 July 2016 and later resigned as MP for Witney.
Cameron returned to frontline government in November 2023 when Prime Minister Rishi Sunak appointed him Foreign Secretary. He was granted a life peerage and entered the House of Lords as Lord Cameron of Chipping Norton. He served as Foreign Secretary until July 2024 and remains a Conservative member of the House of Lords.
