Job West, Reform UK chairman for South Derbyshire, intends to resign from his position.
Mr West posted a video to X last night announcing his intention to resign, along with a host of reasons.
Mr West said:
Hello. My name is Job West, and I'm the Reform UK chairman for South Derbyshire. And I'm going to resign my position. I'm going to do so because I do not have confidence in the leadership of Nigel Farage or the chairmanship of Zia Yusuf. I don't think either one of them really understands what Reform UK means to an awful lot of people.
People like myself hoped that Reform UK would be a grassroots people led party from the bottom up. But as the months have gone by, I can see that this professionalisation drive really means that Nigel and Zia seem to be intent on turning Reform UK into Conservative party 2.0. The professionalisation of the party is, as far as I'm concerned, the Toryisation of the party, and that's no good. I signed up to the defeat of the uni party, and I was proud to stand as a Reform UK candidate for the general election and help in the defeat of the Conservative government. I hoped and I believed that Labour would be next.
I can't say I believe that anymore. I believe that there are plans afoot to make the Conservative party and Reform merge and blend into one, And that's not what I stood for, and I don't think it's what an awful lot of people in reform stand for either. So I'm afraid I've got to go.
