The Government has announced an £88 million package of humanitarian and early-recovery support for Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.
Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband announced the package at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, with the funding intended to support healthcare, clean water, sanitation, waste management and protection services.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said UK-funded programmes are expected to provide assistance to hundreds of thousands of people affected by the conflict.
Healthcare support for up to 900,000 people
According to the Government, the package is expected to enable medical consultations for up to 900,000 people through UK-supported healthcare facilities.
It will also support rehabilitation and prosthetic treatment for 1,000 children with blast injuries and provide mental health and psychosocial support for 21,000 people.
Other programmes are expected to provide solid waste management services for up to 900,000 people and emergency water supplies for 150,000 people.
£88m includes previously announced funding
The Government's headline £88 million figure does not represent £88 million of entirely new funding announced on 24 September.
In notes accompanying the announcement, the Foreign Office said the UK has committed more than £88 million in humanitarian and early-recovery support for Palestinians during the current financial year.
The department confirmed that the package includes support previously announced through UNRWA and the UN Horizon Fund as well as new humanitarian funding.
The UK's total bilateral Official Development Assistance budget for Palestine in the 2026/27 financial year is £127 million.
UK convenes meeting with Jordan and Qatar
The announcement came as the UK co-hosted a meeting with Jordan and Qatar at the UN General Assembly focused on humanitarian access, healthcare and recovery in Gaza.
The meeting brings together governments, the United Nations, civil society, Palestinian representatives and international donors to discuss the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
A separate call to action endorsed by the UK, Australia, Denmark, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia calls for rapid and unimpeded humanitarian access throughout Gaza and support for essential health services and infrastructure.
Miliband calls for greater humanitarian access
Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband said civilians in Gaza needed unhindered access to humanitarian assistance and said the funding would provide healthcare support to people in need.
He also called on the Israeli Government to change restrictions affecting humanitarian access to Gaza.
