Scottish Labour MP Joani Reid has announced that her membership of the Parliamentary Labour Party (PLP) has been restored following the conclusion of an independent party process.
In a statement published on X, the MP for East Kilbride and Strathaven said she was looking forward to playing "a full part" in supporting Prime Minister Andy Burnham, his government and the renewal of Scottish Labour.
Reid wrote:
"With my membership of the Parliamentary Labour Party restored, I am excited to play a full part in supporting our new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, his government, and in renewing Scottish Labour."
She also addressed speculation surrounding the circumstances that led to her suspension earlier this year, stating:
"I have never been part of a police investigation, as a suspect or as a witness, and I am pleased that this has now been recognised."
Reid had previously stepped aside from the Parliamentary Labour Party after her husband was arrested as part of a police investigation into alleged offences connected with foreign interference. Throughout that period, Reid consistently maintained that she was not under investigation and had not been accused of any wrongdoing.
In her statement, Reid thanked colleagues from across the political spectrum, her constituents and members of her local Labour Party for their support during the process.
She added:
"The support I have received from colleagues across the political spectrum, my constituents and my local Labour Party has been steadfast."
Reid also expressed gratitude to those who continued to support her privately, saying:
"I am also deeply grateful to everyone who has stood by me when it was politically easier to distance themselves. You know who you are - thank you."
Her reinstatement follows the completion of Labour's independent disciplinary procedures and means she is once again a member of the Parliamentary Labour Party.
The decision comes as Labour continues to implement disciplinary processes introduced following reforms to the party's governance, with the leadership maintaining that such cases are handled independently and in accordance with party rules.
