The Metropolitan Police have confirmed they will take no further action against Green Party leader Zack Polanski following complaints about an Instagram post featuring an image widely interpreted as referring to Reform UK leader Nigel Farage.
The controversy began after Polanski accepted a collaboration request on a social media post from a Green Party event in Bristol. One image within the post showed a man wearing a T-shirt displaying a guillotine alongside the words "We're only making plans for Nigel."
Nigel Farage and Reform UK reported the post to police, arguing it amounted to incitement to violence. The Metropolitan Police subsequently confirmed they were making enquiries after receiving a third-party complaint.
Following its assessment, the force concluded that sharing the image did not meet the threshold for a criminal offence, and no further action will be taken against Polanski.
The Metropolitan Police did, however, determine that the wearing of the T-shirt itself should be recorded as a crime report and referred that aspect of the incident to Avon and Somerset Police, as the photograph was taken in Bristol. Avon and Somerset Police have also decided not to pursue further action.
Polanski has maintained that he did not notice the image before accepting the collaboration request and removed the post once it was brought to his attention. While declining to apologise to Mr Farage, he has said he does not support political violence.
The decision brings to a close the police investigation, although political disagreement over the incident is likely to continue.
