Plaid Cymru has retained the Bro'r Llynnoedd ward on the Isle of Anglesey County Council after Jon Paul Taylor secured victory in Thursday's by-election.
Taylor was elected with 551 votes (48.5%), finishing ahead of Reform UK candidate Richard John Jones, who polled 446 votes (39.3%).
The Conservatives finished third, while the Green Party also contested the seat.

The by-election was held on 30 July 2026 following the death of Plaid Cymru councillor Ken Taylor, who had represented the Bro'r Llynnoedd ward since being elected in 2022. Taylor had served as Chair of both the Planning Committee and the Licensing Committee and was widely praised for his commitment to local government and the communities he represented.
The result means Plaid Cymru successfully defended one of its seats on the Isle of Anglesey County Council despite a strong challenge from Reform UK.
Reform UK, which did not contest the ward at the 2022 local elections, secured almost four in every ten votes to finish comfortably in second place. While the party fell short of victory, the result underlines its growing presence in parts of north Wales.
At the 2022 county council election, the ward elected one Plaid Cymru councillor and one Independent councillor under the multi-member electoral system. This by-election was held to fill the vacancy created by Ken Taylor's death, with Independent councillor Gwilym Owen Jones continuing to represent the ward.
The hold will be welcomed by Plaid Cymru, which earlier this year lost the Ynys Gybi by-election on Anglesey to Reform UK. Retaining Bro'r Llynnoedd therefore represents an important result for the party on the island.
Jon Paul Taylor was formally declared elected as the new county councillor for Bro'r Llynnoedd following the conclusion of the count.
