Why was the election held?

The vacancy followed the resignation of former Liberal Democrat council leader Luke Taylor, who moved to the United States for work. Taylor had represented Bradninch since 2015 and led Mid Devon District Council from 2023.

How does the result compare?

The Liberal Democrat share was approximately 9.6 percentage points lower than in the 2023 ward election, but the party retained the seat by a substantial margin. Reform UK, which did not stand in that previous contest, finished second with 13.9%.

This was a district council by-election, not an election to Devon County Council or Parliament.
