Conservative gain from Labour
The contest was called following the resignation of Labour councillor Peter Carlill on health grounds. Carter previously represented the ward and lost her seat in the 2024 local elections. She now returns to Leeds City Council, where her husband Andrew Carter also serves as a Conservative councillor.
Speaking to local news outlet West Leeds Dispatch after the count, Carter highlighted local priorities including speeding, traffic using residential roads as shortcuts, and protecting green spaces.
Calverley and Farsley is a three-member ward, so the result changes the party holding this particular seat; it does not mean every councillor representing the ward belongs to the Conservatives.
