How the vote changed
Compared with the May 2025 Wiltshire Council election in this division, the Liberal Democrat vote share increased by approximately 1.8 percentage points, while the Conservative share rose by 12.4 points. Reform UK's share fell by 6.7 points and Labour's by 2.1 points. These comparisons describe the results in this division and do not necessarily reflect wider national voting trends.
Why the by-election took place
The contest followed the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Alan Bayliss from both Wiltshire Council and Salisbury City Council for personal reasons. The result retains the Wiltshire Council seat for the Liberal Democrats, whose council administration had faced a closely watched test of its numbers.
Separate Salisbury City Council result
Voters also chose a representative for Salisbury City Council's Milford ward on the same day. Liberal Democrat Lawrence Gillies won that separate contest with 751 votes. The two elections were for different councils and should not be confused.
