Former Conservative MP David Morris has been selected to contest Morecambe and Lunesdale at the next general election, launching a bid to return to the House of Commons after losing his seat in 2024.
Morris represented the Lancashire constituency from 2010 until the 2024 general election, when Labour candidate Lizzi Collinge won the seat. Morris previously served as an assistant government whip.
Conservatives select former MP
Local broadcaster Beyond Radio reported the selection on 23 October 2026. The decision makes Morris the Conservative candidate for the constituency at the next general election; it does not mean that an election date has been set or that he has regained a parliamentary seat.
Speaking about his return bid, Morris said he wanted to “finish what I started”. He highlighted local priorities including the Eden Project Morecambe, hospital provision and proposals concerning Heysham's energy infrastructure.
Seeking to reverse 2024 defeat
Collinge is the sitting Labour MP for Morecambe and Lunesdale. Morris's selection creates the prospect of a rematch at the next general election, subject to the final list of candidates when that election is called.
The development is a confirmed constituency selection, rather than speculation about whether a former Conservative office-holder might seek a return to Westminster.
